Lockheed C-5 Galaxy

The Lockheed C-5 Galaxy Model Airplane is a large, military transport aircraft built by Lockheed. It was designed to provide strategic heavy Airlift over intercontinental distances and to carry outsize and oversize cargo. The C-5 Galaxy has been operated by the United States Air Force since 1969 and is one of the Largest Military Aircraft in the world.

These Model Airplanes are finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 17” inches in length with custom models available.

C-5 Galaxy Model Airplane Features:

The C-5 is one of the largest aircraft in the world. It can carry outsize and oversize cargo intercontinental ranges and can take off or land in relatively short distances. Ground crews can load and off load the C-5 simultaneously at the front and rear cargo openings. Other features of the C-5 are:

- Able to take off fully loaded within 8,300 feet (2,530 meters) and land within 4,900 feet (1,493 meters).
- High flotation landing gear with 28 wheels sharing the weight.
- Nose and aft doors that open the full width and height of the cargo compartment to permit faster and easier loading.

- A “kneeling” landing gear system that permits lowering of the parked aircraft so the cargo floor is at truck-bed height or to facilitate vehicle loading and unloading.
- Full width drive-on ramps at each end for loading double rows of vehicles.

- A system that records and analyzes information and detects malfunctions in more than 800 test points.

The C-5 is similar in appearance to its smaller sister transport, the C-141 Starlifter, although the C-5 is much larger. Both aircraft have the distinctive high T-tail, 25-degree wing sweep, and four turbofan engines mounted on pylons beneath the wings.

The Galaxy carries nearly all of the Army’s combat equipment, including such bulky items as its 74-ton mobile scissors bridge, from the United States to any theater of combat on the globe.

Four TF39 turbofan engines power the big C-5, rated at 43,000 pounds thrust each. They weigh 7,900 pounds (3,555 kilograms) each and have an air intake diameter of more than 8.5 feet (2.6 meters). Each engine pod is nearly 27 feet long (8.2 meters).

The Galaxy has 12 internal wing tanks with a total capacity of 51,150 gallons (194,370 liters) of fuel — enough to fill 6 1/2 regular size railroad tank cars. A full fuel load weighs 332,500 pounds (150,820 kilograms). A C-5 with a cargo load of 270,000 pounds (122,472 kilograms) can fly 2,150 nautical miles, offload, and fly to a second base 500 nautical miles away from the original destination — all without aerial refueling. With aerial refueling, the aircraft’s range is limited only by crew endurance.

C-5 Galaxy Model Airplanes Specification:

Secret NASA Model

Amateur astronomers are enjoying a cat-and-mouse game with the US military in keeping track of its secret space plane, the X-37B. Apparently it disappeared for 2 weeks, as it changed its orbit and was launched in April. I am lost, why am I only finding out about this Secret NASA Model now? Perhaps it is the future of space travel and based on this picture, it looks like it is prepared to come back to Earth one day - notice the wings and landing gear:

I found this on the internet (http://heavens-above.com/PassSummary.aspx?satid=36514&lat=0&lng=0&loc=Unspecified&alt=0&tz=CET) where you can actual view this NASA Models orbit:

Boeing Model Airplane - Boeing Business Jet

These Model Airplanes are finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 18’ inches in length with custom models available.

The delivery of the first BBJ Model Airplane was in October 1998 and now nearly 140 have been ordered (114 BBJ, 16 BBJ2, 9 BBJ3) and over 100 BBJ aircraft are in service worldwide. The BBJ has accumulated more than 90,000 flight hours. Two BBJs are in service with the Royal Australian Air Force, one with the government of South Africa and three with the Abu Dhabi Amiri Flight. In July 2005, one BBJ of the US Air Force was delivered to the Columbian government for presidential and VIP transport. The BBJ is based on the 737-700 airliner and the BBJ2 on the 737-800. In November 2005, Boeing unveiled the BBJ3, based on the 737-900ER. BBJ3 has 35% more cabin space than the BBJ and 11% more cabin space than the BBJ 2. It will have a maximum range of 10,140km. BBJ3 was officially launched in October 2006, with orders from two undisclosed customers. The first BBJ3 was completed in August 2008. It is scheduled for certification at the end of 2008 and entry into service in early 2009.

The BBJ can fly more than 6,000nm non-stop, for example Johannesburg to London or Los Angeles to Paris and provides interior space nearly three times larger than other comparable long range executive jets. In April, 2002, a BBJ flew a record 6,854nm from Seattle, USA to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at an average cruise speed of Mach 0.78.

In May 2004, the BBJ became the first non-commercial aircraft to cross the North Atlantic using future air navigation system (FANS) technology. FANS rationalises communication between model airplanes crews and air-traffic controllers, providing greater safety and fuel efficiency.

B-52 Stratofortress

These model airplanes are finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 17’ inches in length with custom models available.

The B-52H BUFF [Big Ugly Fat Fellow] is the primary nuclear roled bomber in the USAF inventory. It provides the only Air Launch Cruise Missile carriage in the USAF. The B-52H also provides theater CINCs with a long range strike capability. The bomber is capable of flying at high subsonic speeds at altitudes up to 50,000 feet (15,166.6 meters). It can carry nuclear or conventional ordnance with worldwide precision navigation capability.

The model airplanes’ flexibility was evident during the Vietnam War and, again, in Operation Desert Storm. B-52 models struck wide-area troop concentrations, fixed installations and bunkers, and decimated the morale of Iraq’s Republican Guard. The Gulf War involved the longest strike mission in the history of aerial warfare when B-52s took off from Barksdale Air Force Base, La., launched conventional air launched cruise missiles and returned to Barksdale — a 35-hour, non-stop combat mission. A total of 744 B-52s were built with the last, a B-52H, delivered in October 1962. Only the H model is still in the Air Force inventory and all are assigned to Air Combat Command. The first of 102 B-52H’s was delivered to Strategic Air Command in May 1961. The H model can carry up to 20 air launched cruise missiles. In addition, it can carry the conventional cruise missile which was launched from B-52G models during Desert Storm.

Barksdale AFB, LA and Minot AFB, ND serves as B-52 Main Operating Bases (MOB). Training missions are flown from both MOBs. Barksdale AFB and Minot AFB normally supports 57 and 36 aircraft respectively on-station.

Lynx Jet - Flashback

Our Client said they wanted their logo on an model airplane, we said why not launch an airline?

And the solution - Lynx Jet - an airline that takes sexist to a new level but was no doubt a successful campaign for Lynx. The campaign ran in Australia and they decided to paint up a 717 airplane model for Qantas, but once Qantas saw the ad's they canceled the contract. A pizza company ended up using the jet to advertise their cheesy crust (as the plane was already painted yellow). Take a look at their successive advertising campaign covering several pieces of media:

Agusta A-129 CBT Mangusta Model Helicopter

These Airplane Models are 16” inches in length and finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality

The Agusta Mangusta A129CBT is an attack helicopter model originally designed and produced by Agusta in Italy. It was the first attack helicopter to be designed and produced wholly in Western Europe.

The A129 was developed to provide an anti-tank attack helicopter for the Italian Army. Design of the A129 began in 1978. The first of five A129 prototypes was first flown on 15 September 1983, and the fifth prototype first flew in March 1986.

In 1986, the governments of Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom signed a memorandum of understanding to investigate an improved version of the A129, called the Joint European Helicopter Tonal. (“Tonal” was derived from the name of an Aztec deity.) The Tonal was to have more powerful engines, a new rotor system, retractable landing gear, improved sensors and more powerful armament. However, the project collapsed in 1990 when Britain and the Netherlands decided to obtain the Ah-64 Apache instead. Spain has since acquired the European Tiger. An export version of these model airplanes, the A129 International (A129I), is a lower-cost helicopter with added firepower and upgraded avionics. In September 2007, the A129I was redesignated the AW129.

Space Shuttle Model Discovery (Orbiter Vehicle Designation: OV-103) is one of the three currently operational orbiters in the Space Shuttle fleet of NASA, the space agency of the United States. When first flown in 1984, Discovery became the third operational orbiter, and is now the oldest orbiter in service. Discovery has performed both research and International Space Station (ISS) assembly missions.

Discovery was the shuttle that launched the Hubble Space Telescope. The second and third Hubble service missions were also conducted by Discovery. It has also launched the Ulysses probe and three TDRS satellites. Discovery has been chosen twice as the return to flight orbiter, first in 1988 as the return to flight orbiter after the 1986 Challenger disaster, and then for the twin return to flight missions in July 2005 and July 2006 after the 2003 Columbia disaster. Discovery also carried Project Mercury astronaut John Glenn, who was 77 at the time, back into space during STS-95 on October 29, 1998, making him the oldest human being to venture into space. These model airplanes will go down in history as one of the longest serving spacecraft in history.

Korean Air Boeing 777 - Rough Landing

I travel a lot and have never been in a landing like this - well I have been in rough landings, and would assume they are not this bad from the outside! Korean Air is a great airline and have a nice fleet of 777 models.

If you notice at the end, the wind sock is not moving, indicating the weather is calm. The gusts were probably cause by wake turbulence of a previous landing or taking off aircraft. Or the pilot is struggling to learn the 777 airplane models controls... either way, I think the passengers would be thinking themselves lucky if they ever saw this video. Kudos to the pilots!

Marine One Model Helicopter

VH-3D Marine One

This Model Airplanes is finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 16” inches in length.

The VH-3D model aircraft which forms the backbone for normal Presidential lifts fits the definition of an “aging” aircraft (i.e. an aircraft for which no production line currently exists). However, recurring in-depth evaluations of the condition and maintenance procedures on the VH-3D fleet in current usage has resulted in the establishment of a service life of 14,000 flight hours based on Service Life Assessment/Extension Programs (SLAP/SLEP) carried out on the VH-3D air frames. Using current utilization data, these aircraft will be able to remain in service until approximately 2014.

On 14 October 1990 a VH-3D helicopter crashed in the vicinity of Chicago as the result of a plastic snow fence which had been positioned for crowd control being blown free of its supports and wrapping around the tail rotor during landing transition. The tail pylon broke off and the aircraft rolled onto its side. The mishap was caused by the squadron’s White House Liaison Officer (WHLO) having failed to insist that the fence be removed after having recognized the possible hazard to aircraft posed by it. Three crew members and one passenger received minor injuries, and two passengers were uninjured. No post-mishap fire occurred, and the aircraft was removed and ultimately refurbished. Because of the nature of the mishap (aircraft rolled onto its left side), the normal cabin egress was precluded, and the metal damage to cabin emergency escape hatches necessitated egress through the pilot’s escape window for all.

Naval Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Squadron’s (NRWATS) Executive Transport Test Team is responsible for conducting developmental flight test in support of Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) requirements. HMX-1 functions as the Marine Corps’ operational test and evaluation unit and also provides Presidential/VIP transportation. Most Executive Transport flight test involves developmental software flight test in the NRWATS NVH-3D helicopter. This specially configured H-3 is capable of supporting software flight test in support of most of the systems installed on HMX-1 aircraft. When the President is onboard it is called Marine One Model

A380 Model Airplane

Even though Eithad do not have an A380 Model Airplane, this is still the best model I have seen.... huge, and flies very well... I will post a pic of their engines soon, they are like small rollers! I want one of these...

Boeing 747 Cathay Pacific

This Model Airplanes is finely handcrafted, and hand painted by our artists – to scale and museum quality. 18” inches in length.

About the Cathay Pacific:

Cathay Pacific Airways Limited: Is the flag carrier of Hong Kong, with its headquarters and main hub at Hong Kong International Airport. The airline also operates fifth freedom flights from Bangkok and Taipei, its major focus city. The airline’s operations include scheduled passenger and cargo services to 114 destinations in 36 countries worldwide, including codeshares and joint ventures, with a fleet of 126wide body aircraft, consisting of Airbus A330s and A340s, Boeing 747s and 777s. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Dragonair, operates to 29 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region from its Hong Kong home. In 2008, Cathay Pacific and Dragonair operated 138,000 flights, carrying nearly 25 million passengers and over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo and mail.

The airline was founded on 24 September 1946 by American Roy c. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow, with each man putting up HK$1 to register the airline. They named it Cathay Pacific becauseCathay was the ancient name given to China; and Pacific because Farrell speculated that they would one day fly across the Pacific. The airline made the world’s first non-stop transpolar flight flying over the North Pole in July 1998, and it also operated the maiden flight to arrive at the new Hong Kong International Airport. In July 2001, it was involved in one of the biggest industrial relations conflicts in its history, by firing 49 of its 1,500 pilots. Twelve of the pilots were eventually offered positions in its cargo division. The airline celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2006; and as of October 2009, its major shareholders are Swire Pacific and Air China.

Cathay Pacific is a founding member of the One world alliance, with its subsidiary, Dragonair, as an affiliate member of the alliance. The airline was awarded with a Five Star Airline ranking and 2009 Airline of the Year by Skytrax.

About B747-400:

The Boeing 747 is a widebody commercial airliner, often referred to by the nickname Jumbo Jet. It is among the world’s most recognizable aircraft, and was the first widebody ever produced. Manufactured by Boeing’s Commercial Airplane Unit in the United States, the original version of the 747 was two and a half times the size of the Boeing 707, one of the common large commercial aircraft of the 1960s. First flown commercially in 1970, the 747 held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.

The four-engine 747 uses a double deck configuration for part of its length. It is available in passenger, freighter and other versions. Boeing designed the 747’s hump-like upper deck to serve as a first class lounge or (as is the general rule today) extra seating, and to allow the aircraft to be easily converted to a cargo carrier by removing seats and installing a front cargo door. Boeing did so because the company expected supersonic airliners (whose development was announced in the early 1960s) to render the 747 and other subsonic airliners obsolete; while believing that the demand for subsonic cargo aircraft would be robust into the future. The 747 in particular was expected to become obsolete after 400 were sold but it exceeded its critics’ expectations with production passing the 1,000 mark in 1993. As of June 2009, 1,416 model aircraft have been built, with 107 more in various configurations remaining on order.

Delta economy class ... the only thing tougher than the seats is the crew.

Delta economy class ... the only thing tougher than the seats is the crew.

Aircraft Delta Air Lines, Boeing 777-200LR.

Route Sydney to Los Angeles.

Class Economy, seat 45E.

Seat pitch and width 31-33 inches between rows of seats, 18 inches between armrests.

Seat configuration 3-3-3 for a total of 233 economy seats.

Luggage allowance Two pieces of checked luggage up to 23 kilograms each. One piece of carry-on, plus one personal item.

Scheduled flight time 13 hours, 50 minutes.

On-time performance Check-in service is brisk and orderly. On time into LA. Unfortunately on the return flight we are marooned on the tarmac for three hours due to a passenger's misplaced passport and a "dent". No water offered by crew and little care or communication.

Aircraft condition Near-new, with moody cabin lighting and natty timber flooring in the toilets. All very posh, until you reach your seat.

Comfort The 777-200LR has the longest range of any passenger aircraft, but I wouldn't recommend testing this record in Delta economy. Those of a generous bent might call the leather seats "firm" but after 14 hours I just felt bent. The seats are hard and seem that way from the moment you sit down. Leg room is OK for a 178-centimetre person.

Service The only thing tougher than the seats is the crew, who swerve between defeated and tetchy. The service is reluctant and the uniforms bland. If only our flight attendants had been as amusingly bonkers as those in the safety video.

Console/entertainment Terrific range of movies, music and TV shows on the 26.9-centimetre screen; HBO fare costs extra ($5 for movies, $2 for TV shows). Seat-back touch screens are nifty but can be stubborn, resulting in the odd jab in the head from behind.

Food and beverage Beef or chicken offered. "In what style?" I ask. "One's beef, the other's chicken," I'm told. There's also a lacklustre cluster of sides, including a salad that would make a rabbit weep. Breakfast is even more insipid.

Amenities Comfortable blanket and pillow.

Flight frequency LA to Sydney daily. Economy return fare is currently $943 including tax.

Online delta.com. I booked my flight here, a reasonably easy process.

Boeing 787 Order book

Up to August 3, 2010, the Boeing 787 had 847 Orders. In the last two years, the order book has gone backwards - notably the global financial crisis hitting the airlines hard. For each type of aircraft model, this is where the order book stands:

787-3
787-8                    190
787-9                    657
Unspecified
Total firm orders     847

Since launch, the year on year orders looks like this:

2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Total
Net orders 56 235 157 369 93 -59 -4 847

Canceled orders are indicative of the airline industry at the present time, however, with the cost savings that the 787 will deliver the obvious choice will be to replace aging fleets with this new aircraft in the years to come. So as Boeing rolls out it's latest baby, it is unbelievable that it is 10 years more advanced than the A380 which entered service in 2007! Even with the delays the Boeing 787 is a true magnificent airplane model.
